Bill Museum of LeClaire, Inc. TO: Friends of the
Buffalo Bill Museum and the Historical LONE STAR Paddle Wheeler Dear Friends: Your $5.00 membership dues (or $8.00 for a couple and $10.00 for a family) are once again requested for the continuation of the Buffalo Bill Museum and the restoration of the last working wooden-hull paddle wheeler on the Mississippi. The LONE STAR, which is dry-docked at the Museum, provides Le Claire with tourism dollars, impacts other businesses, and presents unique river history. In addition your membership fee contributes greatly to our maintenance. Each year, we have the same concerns as you such as heating, AC, water, etc. and out major source of income is from our support. We have received many generous donations this year, such as riverboat pictures, books and a document signed by Abraham Lincoln. The Museum would like others to consider such donations to increase our museum contents and for a tax write-off for the donor. Remember as a member of the Museum, you may visit FREE of charge any time. From October 15th to May 15th, the hours are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5:00 pm. The rest of the year, during the summer months, we are open six days a week from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and on Sundays from noon to 5:00 pm. The exterior of the LONE STAR was painted in the spring, and new flooring was installed on the top deck. The job continues to protect from further deterioration. Another project this year is to install lighting shields to protect the integrity of the Lincoln document, the quilts and other items. YOU HAVE THE ABILITY TO HELP US PRESERVE OUR HISTORIC CULTURE AND GIVE LE CLAIRE A FUTURE, ALONG WITH TOURISM INCOME. The BUFFALO BILL MUSEUM board has accomplished a great deal this year. Unfortunately, our curator suffered a stroke and a board member resigned, but with the aid of two excellent replacements, our workers are picking up the slack. In June, Captain Glenn A. Johnson, the last pilot of the L0NESTAR spent the day with us, conducted two tours and answered questions about the LONE STAR. Many other tours were given during the year, including the Boy Scouts, the Farm Bureau and "The Red Hat Ladies". We broke all attendance records this summer. During the weekend of the Grand Excursion over 1,500 people visited our museum. The Tug-Fest again brought over 1,000 visits. We are so proud of the numerous volunteers who donated countless hours at the Museum, built an award winning Tug-Fest float, helped clean, put up displays and did all the other work that has been accomplished. Thank you so much. All members are urged to come to the annual meeting, the third Thursday in October at 7:00 p.m. at the Museum. With your continued patronage, we will continue to grow and become a major cultural influence in the Midwest. We sincerely hope you have a happy, healthy, and safe holiday season! Your Membership Committee, Vivienne Mohr, Brent H. Christie and Mary Ahlgren ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
